MATERIALS DATA

Standard Compounds - available in 40-90 shore

Nitrile or Buna N (NBR): The most commonly used rubber, NBR is a general purpose sealing material for petroleum oils and fluids, silicone greases and oils, greases and air. It is NOT recommended for phosphate ester fluids, MEK, Acetone, acid or automotive brake fluids and has only marginal resistance when exposed to oxygen and sunlight.
Temperature range: -40° F to 250° F (-40° C to 120° C)

Polyacrylate (PA):
PA has execllent resistance to petroleum fluids and oils, diesel oils, and automatic transmission and power steering fluids. It has outstanding resistance to oxidation, ozone and sunlight with minimal cracking due to heat. Frequently referred to as 'high temperature Nitrile', PA operates very well in temps of 300° F to 350° F in hot oil service. Compression set and water resistance are poorer as compared to NBR.
Temperature range: 0° F to 350° F (-18° C to 177° C)

Silicone (SI):
Silicone's temperature resistance makes it ideal for very low to high temperature conditions, in static applications. However, it has poor tear strength, poor abrasion resistance and generally poor strength compared to other materials, It is NOT recemmended for most petroleum fluids/oils, MEK, Acetone, water or steam.
Temperature range: -65° F to 400° F (-54° C to 232° C)

Fluorocarbon Rubber (FKM,VI):
Inititally introduced to the rubber industry in 1954, Flourocarbon Rubber is also widely known by its trade names; Viton® (Dupont™) or Fluorel® (3M™). It has wide acceptance to chemical compatibilty, broad spectrum temperature range and low compression set and is recommended for petroleum oil, hydrocarbon base fluids and greases, silicone fluids and greases, carbon tetrachloride, many phosphate ester fluids and acids. It is NOT recemmended for MEK, Acetone, Skydrol and a variety of ammonias and certain hydronated and chlorinated acids.
Temperature range: -15° F to 400° F (-29° C to 204° C)

Ethylene Propolyne Rubber (EPDM or EP): Introduced to the rubber world in 1961, EP was initially successful in outstanding resistance to Skydrol and other phosphate-ester type hydraulic fluids. It is now highly recommended for water, steam, hot air/water silicone greases and oils, diluted acids and alkalies, MEK, Acetone, alcohol and automotive brake fluids. It is NOT receommended for petroleum oils, hydrocarbon base fluids and lubricants, and other di-ester base lubricants.
Temperature range: -65° F to 300° F (-54° C to -149° C)

Fluorosilicone Rubber (FSI): FSI combines both the low temperature and high temp qualities of silicone with fuel and oil resistance. It is a high cost elastomer designed to operate in fuel systems at elevated temperatures up to 350° F, especially in dynamic applications.
Temperature range: -80° F to 350° F (-62° C to 177° C)

Neoprene Rubber (CR): One of the early synthetic rubbers, Chloroprene Rubber is more commonly known as Neoprene, it's name when developed by DuPont™. CR is recommended for petroleum fluids and oils, and has excellent resistance to ozone/oxygen. NOT recommended for use with MEK, Acetone and phosphate ester fluids.
Temperature range: -65° F to 300° F (-54° C to 149° C)

Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR): Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (HNBR), also known as Highly Saturated Nitrile (HSN), is special class of Nitrile rubber (NBR) widely known for its physical strength and retention of properties after long-term exposure to heat, oil, and chemicals.HNBR's improvement in material properties, over that of NBR, include greater thermal stability and range, improved oxidation resistance, broader chemical resistance, and greater tensile strength. HNBR has excellent resistance to common automotive fluids (e.g., engine oil, coolant, fuel, etc.) and many industrial chemicals.
Temperature range: -40° F to 329° F (-40° C to 149° C)

Polyurethane (PU):  Polyurethane (PU) is abrasion resistant, has excellent resistance to oils, solvents, fats, greases and gasoline, tear resistant, has outstanding resistance to oxygen, ozone, and sunlight and has excellent heat and cold resistance. Continuous use above 225°F is not recommended nor is PU recommended in hot water over 175°F. At low temperatures, polyurethane will remain flexible down to -90°F. A gradual stiffening will occur at 0°F, but will not become pronounced until much lower temperatures are obtained.
Temperature range: -90˚F to 2225˚ F (-68°C to 107°C)

Special Compounds:

Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM): High performance synthetic rubber FFKM (Kalrez®) has chemical resistance similar to PTFE and mechanical properties similar to FKM (Viton®). Excellent for high temperature applications, lasts longer and seals better in demanding environments. Recommended for use in chemical processing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, oil and gas and aerospace applications.

Temperature Range: -35˚F to 600˚F (-37˚C to 316˚C)
